The holidays are upon us, and it is always challenging to fit everything in. Too many people to see, too many year end tasks to check off, and too many resolutions to begin before the New Year starts. I take great comfort in the fact that we don’t need to worry about wine sales and winery customers for the last 2 weeks of the year. After Deck the Halls (times 2!) and our Barrel Bonanza, all of us at Standing Stone Vineyards are quite accepting of the intense slow down in tasting room traffic. Rather than compete in the year end “please just order one or 2 more bottles and we’ll give you _____” game, we take these last 2 weeks to breathe.
Then, when the holidays have come and gone, and New Year’s parties are all cleaned up, we sneak in one last holiday tradition – our Russian Christmas celebration at the winery. It’s fun on so many levels. The days are starting to stretch and everyone seems a tad more optimistic. If the winter is snowy, we’re getting used to it and able to avoid panic. The food is fun: unpretentious, reminiscent of so many childhood memories, and very delicious with our wines. For me – the best combination of Happy New Year, family traditions, and our family of staff and customers.
