July is always the most obviously month of tourists. People hail from everywhere, and for every reason. Summer classes at all the surrounding colleges and universities. Orientation for new students at the same colleges and universities. Visitors to Corning for the overwhelming and amazing Glass Museum, often en route to and from Niagara Falls/New York City. Southerners escaping the heat (not such good luck with that this year). Race fans and car club enthusiasts at Watkins Glen International. Families, singles, bicyclists, boaters, with dogs and without, languages that are difficult to pinpoint. The conversations at the tasting bar are diverse, interesting, and lively.
The Finger Lakes Wine Festival is always an exercise in organization and promotion. We know that many returning wine fans come prepared to stock their cellars, and we enthusiastically welcome new folks who find this Festival a good intro to the area wineries. Our third year of seminars shows that serious wine folks are there and eager to learn about the drier and more unusual wines of the Finger Lakes, and it is very much fun collaborating with other wineries to present the seminars. And we are always thrilled to see many of the Festival attendees stay longer and come to the winery during the following week. We have many long term customers that first met us at the Finger Lakes Wine Festival, and we always look forward to connecting with future long term fans.
