Historic

It is our goal to steward these historic vineyards, prolong their productivity, and discover the unique qualities that only hard work combined with time can provide.

Low Intervention

Our fermentations rely on indigenous yeasts and we do not use fining additives or adjustments.

Stewardship

Sharing ownership with Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard, Standing Stone is a critical part of the Finger Lakes quality revolution.

Ideal Site

Located on the Eastern slopes of Seneca Lake, the site is not only visually stunning but also ideal vineyard land. Factors such as proximity to the lake, slope, and soil type are vital components that contribute to moderating lake effects and ripening, and contribute to the distinct nature of our wines.

Standing Stone Vineyards is Integral to the heritage and future of the Finger Lakes.

Our recently released Teinturier Saperavi 2022 marks an exciting step on our journey with Saperavi as it is the first time that we have used our sandstone jarre as an aging vessel for the variety. The vessel bears a resemblance to traditional amphora that have been used in winemaking from the very beginning and specifically recalls the use of qvevri (amphora buried underground) utilized in traditional Georgian winemaking culture, where Saperavi originates. We were impressed to see how the Saperavi’s characteristic high acidity softened over the 6-month aging period, integrating the textural components of the wine while still retaining the unique attributes that we all know and love in the variety. As we look at the 2023 vintage we are excited to continue our trials and exploration! #saperavi #flxwine #standingstoneny

Our Partner Winery

Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard, founded in 1979, is located on the western slopes of Seneca Lake. In 2007, Hermann sold the winery to Fred and Maressa Merwarth, and Oskar Bynke. A decade later, in 2017, they purchased Standing Stone Vineyards. The two brands share both ownership and leadership teams. To learn more about Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard, click the link below.
